As of Thursday afternoon, there are currently NO evacuations active for the 64,881-acre, 59-percent-contained Ferris Fire, though several areas – including in or near Disappointment Valley – are still at “ready” status (that means exactly what it sounds like: Be alert, prepared and ready to move should conditions call for it). Various BLM and U.S. Forest Service closures exist in the region. As far as I know, the middle section of Disappointment Road remains closed, though that could (likely will?) open soon.
Two words: FIREFIGHTERS and RAIN.

For the strength, endurance, skill and courage of the firefighters – on the ground, in the air, on the line, acting as support – I am sure the gratitude from our side is massive and total. I’ve done a lot of “thank you, thank you, thank you!” the last couple of weeks. And that includes BLM range guy Ryan Schroeder, San Miguel County Undersheriff Nick Xavier and all of his deputies, including Dolores County Deputy Branson Smith. We ARE community, and yours thanks you all.

So grateful for the fire fighters AND the rain – huge amount of territory to cover! Thanks – so much for your hard work and dedication. The wild horses and those that love them send gratitude!
And difficult huge territory. It’s nothing short of amazing, what they’re able to accomplish!
The sky in that picture is a worse version of what ours has been the past two days. Today sky is blue & air cool & feels clean – tomorrow supposed be more smoke.
But obviously, our area isnt bad at all compared to those near you or the folks in Canada where our smoke is coming from.
And this whole country – whether in fire danger or not, needs to be so grateful for those brave fire fighters doing their jobs.
Our sky and air has cleared considerably, thankfully. Yours likely will get worse before it gets better, from what I’m reading. 😦 You’re right – we can all be grateful to firefighters, from sea to shining sea!
And I add my “thank you, thank you, thank you” as well. To our firefighters for their resolve in gruelling, life-threatening work and for their perserverence in going back everyday to do it again. And to almighty God for answering our prayers, – so grateful for our now daily rain, the ultimate addition to the firefighters’ “support crew.” And gratitude as well that there have been no injuries or casualties. Things are looking better today!
Things continue to look much better, thankfully! So grateful for the rain that’s falling over the fire … and not to be greedy, but Disappointment Valley and Spring Creek Basin need some of it. 😉

Whew, so do we. It’s been a worrisome few weeks. Thankful we’re seeing the other side. … Not so much for a lot of other places. I hope the hard-working firefighters manage good rest before they transfer out to other fires!
